About Us

We began our interest in the dog world with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in 1997. “Odin” came into our lives like a whirl wind in true Staffy style. Wanting to be responsible owners we enrolled in Dog Obedience classes and little did we know at the time, we would soon be hooked. Odin achieved CD and CDX Obedience titles, as well as a Tracking Dog title. Unfortunately at that time, Agility jumping heights weren’t considerate to smaller stockier dogs like Staffies and he had difficulty negotiating an Agility course without knocking a bar. If he were trialling now with the more appropriate jumping heights he would most certainly have gained titles in that field as well.

After trialling our Staffy and having the difficulties in Agility we were having, we decided a more versatile and more agile dog would be more suited to us. So, we began down a road that eventually lead us to the Australian Shepherd who is renowned for its versatility. We spoke to many breeders and did countless hours of research about the breed, and then waited for just the right Aussie to come along.

18 months later the right one did come along and Danae came into our lives in early 2002 and the rest they say is history. We now share our lives with several of these beautiful animals.

Our lives have changed since our first Aussie arrived. We now have 2 children and Chris is a Novice Obedience Judge and is sitting his Open licence exam this year. Despite these changes, our love and admiration of this breed remains unchanged. Due to our love of Obedience, Agility and Showing the combination of temperament, conformation and working ability are exceptionally important to us. On the limited occasions that we do breed, all of these attributes will be considered when deciding on prospective parents. All dogs prior to breeding will be eye tested and hip/ elbow scored. All pups will be CCC(Q) registered, eye tested, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and heartwormed. Our puppies are born and raised in a home as part of a family and handled by us and our children. We acknowledge the importance of human interaction, positive experiences and socialisation in the formation of temperament.

Here at Chriton we put a tremendous amount of our time and energy into doing everything possible to produce puppies of sound temperament and structure. We want you, our buyers, to get the dog you always wanted. What is paramount to every homing is finding a dog that fits into your family. We will do everything in our power to match our pups temperaments and if needed performance prospects to your family. Most people wanting an Aussie, want a particular colour or gender. We will match the temperament of our pups not their colour to your family. To us colour is not what’s important, when you truly know Aussies, all their colours become beautiful and as you will learn it’s the dog behind the colour that makes an Aussie. Gender in all honesty, becomes irrelevant when you desex your pup at six months of age. We will not make any decisions as to which pup goes to which family until 8 weeks of age, it is not until that age that you really get to know each pup and see which one will suit each family. Of course we will listen to your preferences and if you have your heart set on a particular colour or gender and we feel that there is a pup in that litter of that colour or gender and it is suited to you, then of course we will sell it to you. If however we feel that, in the litter one matching your colour or gender preference does not suit your family’s needs, will we take the time to explain why we feel that pup is not suited and direct you to another pup we feel is more right for you. After all, a dog that you feel is the most beautiful dog in all the world will soon become the most ugly if it has a temperament that you cannot live with.
